Artemis Awakening Artemis Awakening Series Book 1 eBook Jane Lindskold

This novel has all the things Jane Lindskold does best: a dynamite female protagonist, believable animal companions, excellent world-building, and smart characters who make smart decisions. (Are you sick of dumb characters that make you embarrass yourself by yelling at books in public spaces? Try a Lindskold novel and feel the relief!)

Adara the Huntress is a rare Huntress of Artemis: a woman whose genetic gifts ("adaptations") give her claws, night vision, and a psychic link with an equally gifted puma, Sandshadow. The puma wears earrings, and doesn't need help to put them on. You'll have to read the story to find out how that works.

Griffin is a scholar - basically an archaeologist - from a once-mighty star-faring human empire. He came to the abandoned (not so much, really) rustic resort planet Artemis looking for remnants of the technology that was lost in a great war. What he gets instead is trouble, but lucky for him Adara and Sandshadow come to his rescue. The story starts out as "help Griffin to get back home," but plans never survive first contact with the enemy. There are Bad Things happening on Artemis, hidden from its general populace, and these heroes aren't about to ignore someone in need.

One of my favorite scenes in this story involves Adara tearing into a giant robotic Walking Eye (not called that in the novel, but you should know what I mean) with her claws. If that doesn't entice you, I don't know what will.

Also: I love the hardcover version of this book. The cover jacket is gorgeous and has a nice texture.

Artemis Awakening Artemis Awakening Series Book 1 eBook Jane Lindskold Reviews

nothing really big ended up happening. But i really liked the feel of the world, just felt like more could have happened.
This is a novella with an interesting premise beefed up into a novel without a plot. Both the situation and the characters are static and flat after the first forty or so pages. Disappointing.
I purchased this book on "hear say", & was NOT at all disappointed. Great book!! Also the cover is absolutely beautiful. Whoever did the idea for the cover is extremely talented!
I do love the "long lost civilization" stories and this one is a gem. Jane Lindskold weaves a satisfying story with well devloped characters and a solid plot that will carry you to the end of the book and leaving you wanting the next part of the series.

Masterfully written and engaging, this book was a page turner for me and I highly recommend this book.
If you have any background in Anthropology or know an Anthropologist, they will love this book. This book is great on many level. To begin with you have this idea of exploration of a lost world with possible ancient lost tech. Thing is this world has been constantly inhabited by humans since it creation even over the time it was lost, and they have kept their culture and ideas up. You see some rookie anthropology mistakes made by our Archaeologist main character, such as taking the what I refer to as the "noble savage" view of the indigenous people.
What is nice is you see him learn from his mistakes. This book also describes very well this idea of exploring a new world from the characters point of view, and the re-discovery of a world, his indigenous companions have lived on their entire life. There is a lot of great character development here, and I can't wait for the next installment.
This book is good. It isn’t great, but it isn’t bad. It won’t challenge you or tie your mind up with queries, but it is fun and light to read. Sometimes you need that. I know I did. It is 5 stars in the fun/easy section. It is just hard to give it more when I think about books that stick with me and I need to read and read and read.
Artemis Awakening is a somewhat slow paced adventure through a Sci-Fi world with a very interesting premise a world apparently created as the ultimate exotic vacation destination for the most prestigious, wealthy individuals. It was built during a time of supreme technological advancement, and the exotic nature of Artemis comes from its primitive nature where people would hunt with bows and spears, ride on horseback, survive without the aid of technology for the experience and bragging rights.

But a great war set back humanity at least hundreds of years technologically. Fast forward several hundred years to the present of Artemis Awakening. Griffin Dane, a sort of historian and explorer, is the first human since the war to find Artemis. It was considered a treasure trove and forgotten legend all this time, and Griffin sees it as the ultimate discovery for his career. Things go south when he crash lands onto the planet and becomes stranded, forced to adapt to the primitive planet and its inhabitants who were all created to serve.

Most of the book is exploration, mystery, world building and introduction to foreign cultures, and character development, alternating between Griffin Dane and Artemis native Adara the Huntress as point of view characters. A very interesting premise and world with a distinct writing style (this was my first Jane Lindskold book), but indeed not the most eventful book as much of it is build up for the sequel. The franchise is a must read, especially for any Sci-Fi fan.
